DIAGNOSTIC FEATURES: Small, abundantly branched, windswept papillate, sorediate-isidiate thallus; on rock; K+ yellow turning red; compare with U. halei which has larger, rounded soralia containing abundant isidia (not known from Ohio).
ECOLOGY: A southern US species; mainly southern in Ohio where it is rather uncommon on acidic rock in partial shade to full sun.
