Dermatocarpon luridum
DIAGNOSTIC FEATURES: Adnate, clustered growth habit; undersurface smooth; bright green when wet; on rocks often washed by or under water; NIS; compare with D. miniatum with a more or less erect growth habit, undersurface often wrinkled and warty, dull brown-green when wet, on generally dry rocks.
ECOLOGY: Widely distributed in the US; scattered throughout Ohio, most records from unglaciated areas and Lake Erie counties, records from 19 counties; on wet rocks exclusively. The typical habitat is a dripping sandstone cliff face.
