DIAGNOSTIC FEATURES: Pseudocyphellae large and numerous, marginal soredia, medulla C+; compare with Parmotrema spp., no pseudocyphellae, and with C. olivetorum which has C+ medulla.

ECOLOGY: Common on rocks and trees in the Appalachian and northern Great Lakes regions; recently found on hardwood trees in three Ohio counties.
