Usnea strigosa
DIAGNOSTIC FEATURES: Small, somewhat abundantly branched, treelike, papillate thallus; NIS; apothecia usually present; K- or K+ yellow turning red; U. strigosa is the only non-sorediate species recorded from Ohio.
ECOLOGY: Common in the eastern US; the most commonly collected Usnea in Ohio, widely distributed but not abundant in eastern and southern counties; on bark and old wood exclusively.
