Ramalina americana
DIAGNOSTIC FEATURES: Small, abundantly branched, tufted, dull, leathery thallus with strongly flattened branches, not warty, NIS; apothecia terminal or subterminal; compare with R. complanata with surface papillate, and R. celastri with apothecia lateral and superficial.
ECOLOGY: An eastern US species common on tree trunks and canopy branches, uncommon in Ohio with scattered old records and recent records from four counties.
