DIAGNOSTIC FEATURES: Broad, ciliate lobes; distinct maculae; no isidia or soredia, white tipped below; perforate apothecia; compare with P. despectum, adnate with crenate to gnawed margins and rare to sparse short cilia, and P. submarginale, black under tips and medulla K-.
ECOLOGY: Southeastern US species common on exposed trunks and in tree tops; scattered in the southern half of Ohio.
