Flavoparmelia baltimorensis
DIAGNOSTIC FEATURES: Yellow-green color; coarse isidia; always found growing on rock; compare with F. caperata which is almost identical but with pustulare soralia and almost always found on bark; Xanthoparmelia spp. have narrower lobes and a shiny surface.
ECOLOGY: Mainly eastern US distribution; common in eastern and southern Ohio wherever exposed acidic rocks are present, especially horizontal or sloping surfaces, it is less common on vertical surfaces. This species was formerly lumped with P. caperata.
