DIAGNOSTIC FEATURES: Suberect to erect growth habit; warty and/or wrinkled undersurface; dull brown-green when wet; NIS; on generally dry rocks; compare with D. luridum which has loose, clustered growth habit, is bright green when wet, occurs on rock often inundated.
ECOLOGY: This species ranges over nearly all of the continental US; scattered throughout Ohio with records from 17 counties; usually on dry alkaline rock outcrops, although frequently in humid areas near streams and in ravines.
