DIAGNOSTIC FEATURES: Rather long, green to olive squamules, often reflexed; podetia, if present, corticate, often fissured; apothecia not spilling over podetial tips; K+ red; compare with C. sobolescens with podetia similar, K-, P+ red and C. strepsilis with squamules mostly smaller, C+ green.
ECOLOGY: Widespread in the eastern half of the US; widespread in Ohio, a common “old field” species, on soil almost exclusively, rarely on decaying wood.
