DIAGNOSTIC FEATURES: Upper surface finely cracked to margin, isidiate, dark undersurface; compare with C. texana which is sorediate and with Punctilia rudecta which has pale undersurface, medulla C+ red.

ECOLOGY: Common in southeastern US on conifers and other acidic bark trees, more rarely on rocks; found in two Ohio counties.
