How to recognize flat-topped bogmoss:  This is a member if the section Cuspidata, distinguished in part by having the branch leaf green cells triangular, and exposed only on the outer (convex) surface of the leaf. This species is robust, light yellowish-green, recognizablw when dry by the tendency of the branch leaves to be slightly recurved at their tips. The braches are long and drooping, and the branch buds are arranged in pairs between the rays of the in capitulum (head).

Where to find flat-topped bogmoss: This is a very common species found in depressions in acid woodlands and acid meadows, including areas influenced by acid mine drainage.
