7th Annual OMLA Fall Foray to Muskingum County
October 1-3, 2010
Geographically
Muskingum County is among the largest counties in Ohio, covering ± 673
sq, miles. It has a diversity of water and land resources, but
like many Ohio counties, it has been botanically under-collected.
To date, about 24 mosses, 9 liverworts, and 52 lichens have been
reported. Most of these are historical records.
One
of the largest preserved areas in Muskingum County is The
Wilds. Much of the area is restored strip mine lands, but
remnant forests and wetlands are scattered throughout. This foray
is a great opportunity to help The Wilds inventory for its cryptogams,
and to add county records to the OMLA maps.
We are also going to explore Blue Rock State Forest, focusing on stream and outcrop habitats.
