Physcia adscendens
DIAGNOSTIC FEATURES: Many lobe tips fist-shaped with soredia inside; cilia numerous; cortex K+, medulla K-; other members of this group do not have these characteristics.
ECOLOGY: Common in northern and western US; widespread in Ohio, especially on white marble and sandstone headstones in cemeteries. Less commonly found on bark, especially soft, non-acidic bark of ash and elm.
